School: Instituto de Educación Secundaria José de Mora
IES José de Mora is a secondary school in Baza, a town in the north of Granada, Andalucía. The school provides secondary education, Bachillerato and vocational training in business administration and Physical Activities in the Natural Environment. It is the eleventh year since we function as a bilingual school. The bilingual section allows students to study several subjects in English. The school population consists of 709 students and 55 teachers, some of whom are AICLE teachers. We also have an adult education programme. Our students come from different economic backgrounds in Baza and the surrounding villages. We welcome students from different countries and as a result, there is a great cultural diversity. In fact, our school pays attention to diversity.
Our motivation to join this project is in line with the internationalisation plan of our school. We wish to work with different European schools, learn new methodologies, improve linguistic competence in both our students and teachers. Other objectives are to increase the mobility of our teachers and students, implement more efficient teaching and learning methods in order to prevent early school dropouts and exclusion. The people in charge of running this project will be the School board, the bilingual coordinator, teachers involved in the bilingual programme, teachers belonging to the English department.
Our school has extended experience in some international projects in which we have been working for 11 years. We ran three exchanges, one with a French school, one with a German school and one with a British school. Our school is part of an association with a group of six European Schools (Latvia, Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands and France). We all meet once a year to celebrate European Week in Germany, where we hold workshops with students from all the participating countries. In the past we applied for Comenius and Erasmus+ but the applications were not funded. However, our school has benefitted from an exchange grant twice, and two linguistic immersion camps.
Some staff members have participated in professional stays in school abroad. We applied for two Erasmus + (KA229) school projects at the previous deadline without success. This year the school application for an Erasmus+ KA1 project was successful and we intend to do Job Shadowing in a Swedish school. Our school is also part of an Erasmus +consortium for vocational training
